About Sophie
Calm, practical and dependable
Sophie Grant is an experienced freelance instructor and groom working across West Lothian and the surrounding area. She combines supportive coaching with hands-on yard experience, travelling to clients' own yards rather than running a riding school.
Her approach is calm, straightforward and centred on helping riders and owners feel confident about the care and training of their horses — whether that's a nervous adult rebuilding confidence, a child in regular lessons, or an owner who needs trustworthy cover while they're away.

Good to know before you book
Who lessons suit
Children (from age 5, subject to a suitable pony), adults, returning riders, nervous riders and grassroots competitors. Beginners are welcome on a safe, established horse.
Responsible adult
A parent or guardian must be present for all riders under 18. For nervous adult riders, someone on site is recommended for a first lesson.
Helmet & safety
A correctly fitting, current-standard riding hat is required for all mounted work. Suitable footwear and a body protector for jumping are strongly advised.
Arena & facilities
A safe, enclosed area to ride is needed — an arena is ideal. A flat, fenced field may be suitable in good conditions. Let Sophie know what you have.
Bad weather
Lessons go ahead in most conditions with an all-weather surface. If it isn't safe, Sophie will reschedule at no charge or switch to groundwork.
Travel charges
No travel charge within Sophie's standard area. A small fictional charge may apply further out — the booking tool shows this when you enter your postcode.
Cancellation policy
Free rescheduling with more than 48 hours' notice. Cancellations inside 24 hours may forfeit the deposit. Full terms on the policies page.
Your first lesson
Sophie starts by chatting about your goals and watching you ride, then builds a plan. Expect clear explanations and achievable steps — no pressure.

Important information
All horse-care work is subject to a discussion and confirmation before it is agreed. A first visit or yard induction may be required so Sophie can learn your routine and meet the horses.
Medication and specialist care must be discussed in advance and supported by appropriate written instructions. Prices depend on travel, the number of horses, the tasks required and the length of each visit.
Sophie reserves the right to decline work that cannot be carried out safely — this protects you, the horses and Sophie.

The structured enquiry form captures the right details up front — so you avoid a string of back-and-forth messages.
